Phoenix Fire Department mourns death of veteran firefighter and paramedic

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Fire Department is in mourning after the off-duty death of Adam Cauthron, a veteran firefighter and paramedic.

Cauthron died after suffering an unspecified health emergency, the department announced Sunday.

“He will be remembered as a dedicated husband and father who loved his family, friends and exploring the outdoors,” Capt. Todd Keller said in a press release.

Cauthron leaves behind a wife and two children. A GoFundMe campaign was set up to support his family.

Information about memorial services will be released in the coming days.

“He was a well-respected member of the department with nearly two decades of service. Please keep his family in your prayers,” Phoenix City Councilwoman Ann O’Brien said in a social media post.

Adam Cauthron was a highly trained and experienced firefighter

Cauthron had 18 years of service and was trained and certified in technical rescues and hazardous materials.

His skills qualified him to be a member of Arizona Task Force 1, which responds to national disasters when called upon by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

He deployed with the task force in June to help victims of wildfires and subsequent flooding in Ruidoso, New Mexico.

Cauthron is the second Phoenix public safety professional to die this this month.

Police Officer Zane Coolidge succumbed to gunshot injuries on Sept. 6, three days after getting shot while responding to a theft call.
