Phoenix firefighters rescue dog from burning apartment complex

PHOENIX — Firefighters rescued a dog from a burning apartment complex in south Phoenix on Tuesday, authorities said.

Eight residents were displaced after flames ripped through a two-story complex near Central Avenue and Buckeye Road, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the scene around 11:15 a.m. and found a first-floor apartment ablaze, with the flames spreading to the unit above.

All the residents had evacuated before the firefighters arrived, but one of them said her dog was still inside.

“Firefighters were able to quickly locate the dog and reunite him safely with the owner,” Capt. Shaun DuBois said in a media advisory.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire, limiting most of the damage to the two initial two units.

The Phoenix Fire Department Community Assistance Program was helping the displaced residents find a place to stay.

Investigators were working to determine the cause of the fire.
