Phoenix could get sprinkled with rain after 100-degree temperature

PHOENIX — Anyone in metro Phoenix who was dismayed by last week’s triple-digit temperatures will find relief in the chance of rain Monday.

Chris Kuhlman with the National Weather Service said rain chances will start out light and get heavier throughout the afternoon.

“We mainly will see some sprinkles this morning and then some showers and maybe an outside chance of a few rumbles of thunder around late this morning through the afternoon,” he told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

But, Kuhlman added, “even if we do get something, it’s not going to amount for a whole lot.”

Residents in northern Arizona, around Flagstaff, will see a nearly 80% chance of showers, while the Valley is looking at around 50%.

The best chances for metro Phoenix rain will be between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., with thunderstorm chances increasing in the late afternoon.

“It will cool things down compared to the last several days,” when Phoenix reached 100 degrees for the first time in 2019, Kuhlman said.

But the temperatures in metro Phoenix are expected to stay below normal early this week, with highs in the mid- to upper-80s.
