Phoenix Convention Center installs 2 nursing stations for moms

PHOENIX — The convention center in downtown Phoenix now has two nursing stations that offer comfort and privacy for breastfeeding moms on the go.

Two Mamava pods were set up Wednesday. One is located in the north building and the second one is in the west building.

“These pods give the moms a safe place to feed their babies or to pump breast milk,” Mayor Kate Gallego said at a press conference unveiling the rooms.

She said nursing moms used to have to use bathrooms or empty conference rooms at the Phoenix Convention Center to breast pump or to feed their babies.

The Mamava pods have benches, counter space, a mirror and an outlet to plug in a breast pump. They’re big enough to bring in strollers and other children.

Moms can find the nearest Mamava pod and unlock it using a free mobile app. The app also allows moms to control lighting and music inside the pods.

The outside of the Mamava pods at the Phoenix Convention Center are covered in artwork representing Arizona. One of them has a landscape photo of Monument Valley.

“We’re celebrating Arizona while we give our moms a great place to feed their babies,” Gallego said.

Similar Mamava pods were set up at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in August.
