Phoenix Chinese Week to include festival, weiqi tournament

PHOENIX — Celebrate the Year of the Rat at the Chinese Culture and Cuisine Festival in Phoenix this weekend.

Margaret T. Hance Park East will have food and tea vendors, arts and crafts and demonstrations of Chinese heritage.

Culture that will be highlighted includes dragon and lion dances, a Taipei dragon boat display, Chinese paper cut exhibition, a mahjong booth and a koi fish exhibit.

Admission is free.

The event takes place Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a beer garden both weekend days from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Phoenix Chinese Week 2020 begins with the festival Friday and goes through the following week.

On Feb. 15, Desert Sky Games will host a weiqi/Go tournament from 1 a.m. to 5 p.m.

That night, the Great Wall Cuisine in Phoenix will have a 10-course banquet.

The festival is now entering its 30th year of sharing Chinese culture with the Phoenix community.
