Phoenix changing app used to pay at parking meters

PHOENIX — Out with the old, in with the new: The city of Phoenix will change the app used to pay at parking meters on Friday.

On that day, Parkmobile will take over for Pango. However, the parking rates and enforcement times will not change.

“All existing forms of payment will remain in place,” she said. “The only thing that’s changing is the app.”

The Parkmobile system will allow Phoenix restaurants, shops, and other businesses to provide complimentary parking validation to their customers. The app is used in Tempe and other major U.S. cities.

Pango had generated complaints from users – from its interface to issues with remote payments. There were also problems with tickets being issued because the city was notified the spot was paid for, yet meters continued blinking as though they were unpaid.

Hernandez said the issues had nothing to do with the change.

“[Pango’s] contract term expired,” she said. “On a regular basis, we do renew the contract – we open it up for bids. Based on what Parkmobile provided, we selected Parkmobile.”
