Phoenix breaks record for most 100-degree days in calendar year

PHOENIX — The heat in Phoenix isn’t going away and there’s now a new entry in the record books.

Phoenix reached 100 degrees for the 144th time Wednesday, breaking the record for the most triple-digit days in a calendar year.

The mark had previously stood since 1989.

The heat record was the latest in a string that have toppled in recent months.

Phoenix experienced the hottest meteorological summer on record, which includes June, July and August.

Between June and August, Phoenix also reported 50 days with a high temperature of at least 110 degrees, surpassing the record of 33 days set in 2011.

July 2020 went down as the hottest month in Phoenix history with an average temperature of 99 degrees.

That mark was surpassed a month later when the average temperature in August was 99.1 degrees.

More 100-degree days could be in Phoenix’s future.

The National Weather Service is forecasting highs of 99 degrees on Thursday and 101 degrees on Friday.
