Phoenix breaks daily heat record for third consecutive day

PHOENIX — Arizona broke a daily heat record Sunday for the third consecutive day, according to the National Weather Service.

The temperature reached 112 degrees around 3 p.m.

The previous record for the date was 111 degrees, which was set back in 2013.

Sunday’s broken record marks the 20th record-high temperature Phoenix has experienced this summer. Phoenix has also broken 18 records for the warmest low temperature on days throughout the summer.

The record-breaking heat likely isn’t over.

Phoenix could be facing the hottest Labor Day in history. The temperature is forecast to be 111 degrees on Monday. The record high, which was set in 1945, is 112 degrees.

An excessive heat warning is in effect until 8 p.m. Monday.

During periods of extreme heat, experts advise people to stay hydrated, limit the amount of time outside, try to stay inside air conditioned buildings and remember to check on elderly family members and neighbors.

People are also advised to watch for warning signs of heat-related illnesses, which can include heavy sweating, muscle cramps, weakness, headache and nausea.
