Phoenix area marks record heat on Cinco de Mayo, headed for cool down next week
The city of Phoenix is bringing the heat on Cinco de Mayo. According to the National Weather Service, the Valley reached a record-breaking 108 degrees on Friday.

PHOENIX — The city of Phoenix is bringing the heat on Cinco de Mayo.
According to the National Weather Service of Phoenix, the Valley reached a record-breaking temperature of 108 degrees on Friday. The previous record for May 5 was 105 degrees and was set in 1989.

But there could be a light at the end of the (very hot) tunnel: The National Weather Service is also predicting highs in the mid- to high-70s in the Phoenix area next week, due to a cold front that is expected to move in on Saturday.

Saturday is expected to be windy, so NWS officials urged Phoenix-area residents to keep track of their belongings. A fire advisory was also issued for 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday
