Phoenix-area casino pays out $1M to jackpot winner

PHOENIX – The 2019 holiday season was really merry and bright in particular for one Phoenix-area casino bettor.

Somebody collected a $1 million jackpot at Desert Diamond Casino West Valley a few days before Christmas, the casino said in tweet.

The winner, whose identity has remained private, was playing a progressive slot machine Dec. 20 when he or she hit the big money.

The Tohono O’odham Nation casino, near Glendale’s Loop 101 and Northern Avenue, was celebrating its fourth anniversary that day and is nearing completion of an expansion that will include a bigger gaming floor and new dining options.

With the additions to the site comes job opportunities. The company is hosting an on-site hiring event Jan. 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., filling positions as poker dealers and in retail, security and food and beverage.
