PHOENIX — If you need a serious dose of cuteness over the holiday weekend, the Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park might have just what you need: a baby bobcat.
The unnamed male furball is the first bobkitten ever born at the Litchfield Park facility.
“He can be seen at our baby animal nursery,” said Lauren Finnerty, the park’s education curator. “We have him on exhibit there along with a couple of baby warthogs that we just had born. We’re very excited about it.”
The kitten was born about a month ago and has been receiving around-the-clock care. He gets bottle-fed every four hours, and meat will slowly be introduced into his diet over the next few weeks.
Males of the species grow to an average of 15 pounds, but they can get as big as 30 pounds, Finnerty said.
Bobcats are native to North America and Mexico. Their habitats range from forests and mountainous areas to semi-deserts and brush land.
“It’s an animal that you could potentially see out when you are hiking, especially around dawn and dusk,” she said. “That’s when they’re most active.”
The 100-acre Wildlife World is open every day of the year at 16501 W. Northern Ave.
