Peoria resident struck and killed by train in Flagstaff, police say

A Peoria resident was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by a train in Flagstaff early Sunday morning was killed, authorities said.

Jason Cataldo, 21, was believed to be “laying on the tracks” at the time of the collision, according to the Flagstaff Police Department.

Officers responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck around 2:15 a.m. to the tracks near downtown on San Francisco Street.

Cataldo had “injuries consistent with a collision involving a pedestrian and a train,” authorities said.

“The Flagstaff Police Department reminds the public that it is both unlawful and extremely dangerous to enter or walk on railroad tracks except at designated crossings,” Flagstaff PD said in a statement. “Always obey crossing gates, warning lights and audible signals, and cross only when it is safe to do so.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
