PHOENIX – Two West Valley police officers fatally shot an armed domestic violence suspect over the weekend, authorities said Monday.

The officers were responding to a call about a man attempting to strangle a victim near 83rd Avenue and Cactus Road around 3:45 a.m. Sunday, the Peoria Police Department said in a press release.

The suspect, 25-year-old Adrian Begay, approached them in the parking lot while holding a gun to his head, police said.

While the officers negotiated with Begay, he pointed the gun at them, police said.

Each officer fired at least one shot, striking Begay, police said. Begay was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nobody else was injured during the incident.

The officers were equipped with body-worn cameras that were activated, police said.

The investigation was turned over to the Buckeye Police Department.

It was the third shooting involving the Peoria Police Department and 43rd officer-involved shooting of the year, according to KTAR News 92.3 FM tracking.
