Pedestrian struck, killed while crossing Phoenix roadway midblock

A man is dead after being hit by a car while crossing a Phoenix roadway Thursday evening, authorities said.

PHOENIX — A man is dead after being hit by a car while crossing a Phoenix roadway Thursday evening, authorities said.

Officers were called to the area of 27th Avenue and McDowell Road for a collision involving a pedestrian around 7:23 p.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department,

The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

The driver who hit the man stayed at the scene, police said.

Preliminary information suggested the man was crossing McDowell Road between intersections and outside a crosswalk when he was hit by the car, which was traveling westbound, according to authorities.

The investigation into the fatal collision is ongoing.
