A pedestrian died after a collision Monday morning in west Phoenix, authorities said.

Officers with the Phoenix Police Department responded to reports of a collision in the area of Encanto Boulevard and 55th Avenue shortly before 5 a.m.

They found 42-year-old Cory Moore in critical condition.

First responders with the Phoenix Fire Department brought Moore to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives determined that Moore had been fatally struck by a black Chevy Silverado traveling southbound while he crossed 55th Avenue outside of the crosswalk.

The driver stayed at the scene. Investigators said neither speed nor impairment played a role in this collision.
