Pedestrian dead after being struck by vehicle in Phoenix

A collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian left one man dead on Saturday in Phoenix, authorities said.

PHOENIX — A collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian left one man dead on Saturday in Phoenix, authorities said.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Indian School Road and 49th Street around 10 a.m., the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release.

The pedestrian was attempting to cross the street outside the lines of the nearest crosswalk when he was struck.

Police identified the pedestrian as 27-year-old Anthony Vasquez.

He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car remained on scene and neither speed or impairment were suspected to be a factor in the collision.

The investigation remains ongoing.
