Patient accused of sexually assaulting nurse at Phoenix hospital

A Phoenix hospital patient was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly sexually assaulted a nurse and slapped her three times.

PHOENIX — A Phoenix hospital patient was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly sexually assaulted a nurse.

Joshua Surdyka, 34, allegedly exposed himself to a nurse Monday at the Arizona State Hospital near Van Buren and 24th streets.

According to court documents, Surdyka forced her to perform sexual acts on him and slapped her in the head three times.

The incident was reportedly captured on surveillance footage at the hospital.

Surdyka is mentally ill, according to the documents, and he was found to have misdemeanor warrants in Tucson and Casa Grande.

He was charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count each of indecent exposure and assault.

He was being held on $75,000 bond.
