PHOENIX — Construction on the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange was likely to impact traffic on a major Phoenix-area freeway over the weekend and into next week.
The Arizona Department of Transportation announced that parts of the Interstate 10 will be narrowed overnight starting at 9 p.m. on Friday and lasting until 5 a.m. on Wednesday.
The eastbound I-10 will be narrowed to three lanes between 63rd and 43rd avenues from 9 p.m. on Friday to 4 p.m. on Saturday and from 8 p.m. on Monday through 4 a.m. Wednesday. The eastbound I-10 on-ramp at 51st Avenue will also be closed.
ADOT also noted that 59th Avenue will be closed between Van Buren Street and Lower Buckeye Road from 8 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday.
The westbound I-10 will be narrowed to one lane overnight between 43rd and 59th avenues in west Phoenix from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Wednesday nights. The westbound I-10 on-ramp at 43rd Avenue and westbound off-ramp at 51st Avenue will also be closed at times.
But those are not the only portions of the freeway that will be closed overnight this weekend: The westbound I-10 will be narrowed to three lanes between 48th and 32nd streets near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport from 9 p.m. on Friday to 9 a.m. on Saturday for barrier-wall repairs.
The northbound Loop 303 will be narrowed to one lane between Interstate 10 and Thomas Road in Goodyear from 8 p.m. on Saturday to 9 a.m. on Sunday for temporary barrier wall removal and guardrail work.
These restrictions are also subject to change due to inclement weather. Drivers are encouraged to slow down while crews continue construction, plan ahead for delays and traffic and take alternate routes if possible.
