PHOENIX — Residents in part of a central Arizona city were ordered to evacuate their homes on Thursday after heavy rains caused a nearby creek to rise.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said rain in the area of Big Bug Creek in Mayer, Arizona, caused the creek to rise about five feet since 3 p.m.

Residents in the low-lying areas surrounding the creek were ordered to evacuate due to a “significant danger,” the sheriff’s office said.
