Park service expects to complete USS Arizona Memorial repairs by March

PHOENIX — The USS Arizona Memorial dock repair project is expected to be completed by March, according to the National Parks Service.

Visitor access to the Honolulu memorial was suspended earlier this year due to safety concerns about the movement of the loading docks and ramps.

The memorial, opened in 1962, marks the resting place of just over 1,100 of the 1,177 sailors and Marines killed on the USS Arizona during the Pearl Harbor attacks.

An agency update on Monday confirmed that the repairs will not be done in time to allow visitors by Dec. 7, National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

Instead, the agency will hold a ceremony for survivors and their families on a vessel next to USS Arizona, according to the National Parks Traveler.

During the repairs, the Pearl Harbor visitor center, museums and bookstore remain open.
