Parents arrested after 5-year-old Peoria boy left in car dies

A 5-year-old boy is dead and his parents are facing negligent homicide and child abuse charges after leaving him in a car for almost three hours, authorities said.

The Peoria Police Department identified the parents as Mihail and Anca Sabo.

Officers were called to a house near 67th Avenue and Happy Valley Road just after 3:45 p.m. for multiple reports of a boy being found inside a car.

Authorities were told that family members had removed the child from the vehicle and began CPR.

Peoria Fire Medical crews arrived and took the boy to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary information indicated that the family returned to the house after church for a baptism celebration around 1 p.m.  Family members realized the boy was missing around 3:46 p.m. and began searching for him, which was when he was found unresponsive in the car by his mother.

The boy’s parents were arrested and booked into Maricopa County jail.

The investigation into the fatal incident is ongoing.
