PHOENIX — Usually the pristine golf courses in the state of Arizona are reserved for country club members only.

A Paradise Valley golf course that just won a prestigious award is open for anybody to come and play.

The Short Course at Mountain Shadows was named the first-place winner in the Public Course category at the Golf Inc.’s Renovation of the Year.

The award-winning golf course is located near the intersection of Lincoln Drive and Tatum Boulevard.

According to the Short Course at Mountain Shadows’ website, they are a par-3, 18-hole course that was designed and built in 1961.

“The updated layout pays homage to the original with challenging greens, rugged slopes, distinct holes and beautiful views of Camelback Mountain,” their website read.

Golf Inc. reported that they had a $3.2 million budget for their renovations.

“Architect Forrest Richardson was forced to get creative on a 33-acre footprint to produce 18 interesting par-3 holes of golf routed through a mixed-use development that includes 42 condos, 106 villa residential units and a 183-room resort property,” the magazine read on their description of the first-place winner.
