Fire damages Panda Express restaurant in west Phoenix

PHOENIX – A west Phoenix Panda Express will be closed for a while after sustaining serious damage in a fire Thursday morning, authorities said.

Crews responded to multiple calls about flames on the roof of the building on Lower Buckeye Road west of 75th Avenue around 8 a.m., according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Workers safely evacuated the fast-casual Chinese restaurant before the firefighters arrived.

Phoenix, Tolleson and Glendale units coordinated to work from inside the standalone building and on the roof to control the flames.

Employees said they were prepping for the day when the fire broke out.

All Arizona restaurants have been limited to takeout and delivery service because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The Panda Express will need to remain closed for repairs, according to Phoenix Fire.

Nobody was injured during the incident, which is under investigation.
