One injured in Border Patrol-involved shooting in southern Arizona, no agents hurt

U.S. Border Patrol agents were involved in a shooting in southern Arizona that left one person injured on Wednesday. No agents were injured in the exchange.

PHOENIX — U.S. Border Patrol agents were involved in a shooting in southern Arizona that left one person injured on Wednesday.

According to a press release, an unidentified male driver was driving northbound on State Route 80 around 3:45 p.m. when he drove into the immigration checkpoint at the intersection of S.R. 80 and S.R. 82.

The man then opened fire on the U.S. Border Patrol agents, who began shooting back and injured the suspect.

The man was “provided immediate medical attention,” the department said, before being flown to a Tucson-area hospital for medical treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.

No agents were injured.

The investigation is ongoing, agents said in the press release.
