Officers received reports of a shooting near a commercial business near the intersection of 39th and Grand avenues just after 9:30 p.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Police found a man in the parking lot of the business with multiple gunshot wounds when they arrived, and the Phoenix Fire Department pronounced him dead at the scene upon its arrival.

Officers secured the scene, and homicide detectives took over the investigation. After gathering initial information, detectives determined there was a verbal confrontation between the victim and suspect before the shooting occurred, and the suspect fled the scene.

Police identified the suspect as 47-year-old Spencer Vidal, whom they took into custody at his home.
