A Mesa police officer shot a man suspected of banging on apartment doors while armed with a gun on Friday, authorities said.

PHOENIX — A Mesa police officer shot a man suspected of banging on apartment doors while armed with a gun on Friday, authorities said.
Officers arrived to the apartment complex near 350 E. Fifth Ave. around 5 p.m. Multiple witnesses had alerted authorities to the man, and he was located.
The man was allegedly given directions by police that he did not comply with, leading to one officer firing his gun and striking the suspect.
The 30-year-old suspect was hospitalized and is in stable condition. He was not identified by police.
The Gilbert Police Department is investigating the incident.
