PHOENIX — Cities in northern Arizona were swept with snow overnight on Saturday, leaving inches of snow in some places.

According to the National Weather Service, Parks, Arizona, saw the most amount of snow, with six inches recorded as of 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Fredonia, Arizona, saw the second-highest snowfall totals, with five inches. Williams, the Grand Canyon, Black Mesa, Flagstaff and Doney Park all recorded between two and three inches of snow.

Arizona Snowbowl said on its website that the park had received 10 inches of new snow within the last 24 hours.

The snowfall was expected to linger throughout Sunday.

But the change in weather was much-welcomed in northern Arizona.

Arizona has had an usually dry winter season across the state, with northern cities getting hit the hardest.

Tim Seffen, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, told KTAR News 92.3 FM that this weekend’s snow storm could be one of the last significant storms of the season.

“With a lack of precipitation going back to fall — we had a record dry fall — getting this snow ahead of the upcoming fire season is really helpful,” he said.

But, Seffen added, the area will continue to see chances of snow well into April and May.
