Northbound Loop 101 in Tempe closed after fiery crash

PHOENIX — The northbound Loop 101 Price Freeway was closed for about an hour Tuesday after a fiery crash in Tempe.

The wreck occurred near Broadway Road around noon, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

ADOT traffic cameras showed what appeared to be two vehicles in flames under the overpass, with heavy black smoke spewing into the air.

Northbound Loop 101 traffic was forced to exit at Broadway. The southbound lanes remained open, but ADOT warned about the smoke limiting visibility.

ADOT said northbound Loop 101 lanes started reopening a little after 1 p.m.

No other details about the crash were made available.
