Portion of North Kaibab Trail to reopen after being evaluated following Dragon Bravo Fire

A portion of the Grand Canyon’s North Kaibab Trail is set to reopen next month after officials completed safety assessments following the 2025 Dragon Bravo Fire.

PHOENIX — A portion of the Grand Canyon’s North Kaibab Trail is set to reopen next month after officials completed safety assessments following the 2025 Dragon Bravo Fire.

According to the National Park Service, the section of trail from the Clear Creek Trail junction to the Ribbon Falls junction will reopen on March 4.

The 14‑mile trail segment was originally closed on July 13, 2025, just over a week after the Dragon Bravo Fire ignited on the North Rim. NPS said the area north of Ribbon Falls will remain closed while post‑winter evaluations continue.

Other portions of Kaibab National Forest reopened

Last week, officials from Kaibab National Forest and Grand Canyon National Park also reopened several other fire‑affected areas, including:

House Rock Valley, east of Forest Road 8910 and north of Forest Roads 632 and 3510 up to the park boundary at South Canyon.
The Nankoweap/Saddle Mountain Trail, from Forest Road 610 to the Grand Canyon National Park boundary.

Park officials cautioned that flash flooding remains a significant risk, urging visitors to monitor daily weather and be aware of the canyon’s terrain.

Post‑fire assessments found no major threats to permanent facilities or overnight use. However, new signage explaining flash‑flood hazards is being installed, and Weather Service alert systems have been added to support potential evacuations.

The Dragon Bravo Fire ranks among the 10 largest wildfires in Arizona history, burning an estimated 145,000 acres between July 4 and Sept. 28 and destroying dozens of structures, including the historic Grand Canyon Lodge.
