Normal water operations set to return to Grand Canyon’s North Rim

PHOENIX — A damaged pipeline that caused water restrictions at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon for two weeks has been fixed, allowing water operations to return to normal on Saturday.

The pipeline break — caused by rockslides — had forced the closures of public restrooms, laundry and shower facilities since May 23.

Drinking water was still available for guests throughout the restrictions outside of at the Supai Tunnel on the North Kaibab Trail.

The South Rim was not affected by the restrictions and continues to provide drinking water at various filling stations.

Holding tanks supply the only available public water on the North Rim.

The tanks are filled by the pipeline, which has been a recurring problem for the park service.

More than 80 breaks have been recorded since 2010.
