Nonprofit group receives grant to continue serving single-parent families battling cancer

PHOENIX — A local nonprofit group dedicated to serving the needs of single-parent families battling cancer on Friday announced it received a grant that will aid in ongoing building remodel costs at the H.U.B. centers.

The Singleton’s obtained the donation from the Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation and intend to help increase the number of families served by 50 percent, officials said in a press release.

The organization recently opened the family center to provide a safe environment and community for the 72 families it serves.

“We are extraordinary grateful for this grant and the support of the Diane and Bruce Hall Foundation,” Jody Boyd, founder and executive director of The Singleton’s, said in the release.

“Our building of hope is the missing piece we have longed for. It will elevate The Singleton’s programs to the next level.”

Other efforts the organizations will focus on include planting vegetable and fruit gardens, introducing lectures about health and wellness, and expanding support programs like free individual counseling, according to the release.
