PHOENIX – This weekend the ninth annual Italian Festival is coming to Old Town Scottsdale Waterfront near Scottsdale and Camelback Roads.
The Italian Association of Arizona is hosting the two-day festival on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This year’s theme is La Strada del Vino. It means “the street of wine,” according to Mickey Rao, the president of the Italian Association.
“We’re delighted to bring over 30-plus wines from different regions of Italy with even more new vendors and entertainment to this year’s festival,” Rao said.
It’s a family-friendly event that will feature more than a dozen food vendors, such as Pomo Pizzeria, Mamma Lucy, Aroma Culinary and Marcellino Ristorante.
Festival attendees can purchase Italian souvenirs, including clothing, jewelry, artwork and cooking products.
There will be live music at the main stage from Ripalta Bufo, an Italian soprano, A Ziarella Folk Group from Campania, Italy, the Steve Ansel band, and a duet from violinist Suzanne Lansford and pianist Nicole Pesce. Additional live performances will be held at smaller stages.
Funds from the festival will go towards a future Italian culture center for the community.
