New Valley shelter to house families, pets

Work continues Monday in Scottsdale on the Valley’s only shelter dedicated to homeless families with pets.

Ted Taylor with Family Promise said the new shelter near McDowell and Scottsdale roads will be able to house 25 families and their pets.

Taylor said the center will help homeless children hang onto their pets despite the upheaval to their lives.

“We’re making cat and dog condos as well as a greeting area and pet run for the animals,” said Taylor.

A donation of $33,000 from PetSmart made the shelter possible, said Taylor.

The site should be ready by Oct. 1.
