PHOENIX — Travelers will have a chance to stay somewhere new the next time they’re in Glendale, Arizona.

A new hotel is going into the Westgate area.

It is a four-story Aloft Hotel that will have 100 rooms, which will be located on the southwest corner of Glendale and 93rd avenues, right next to the Westgate Entertainment District where an AMC Theater and Dave & Busters currently sit.

“It’ll bring additional guests that can walk to the district and enjoy the theater, restaurants and shops that we have here,” said Jeff Teetsel, Westgate’s development manager.

The hotel will also be within walking distance to University of Phoenix Stadium, home to the Arizona Cardinals, and Gila River Arena, home of the Arizona Coyotes.

The construction of the hotel is expected to be complete by the summer of 2018.

Teetsel said the events and activities at Westgate plus the arena and stadium makes the area “an attractive location for hotel guests.”

He said multiple hotel buyers and brands approached him and others to try and buy the 2.4-acre land where the hotel will sit. They ended up choosing HCW as the developer and Aloft, which is owned by Starwood Hotels & Resorts, as the hotel brand.

“It’s a project we’re enthused about in part because it’s complementary to, not competitive with, the things that we already have going on in the Westgate Entertainment District,” he added.

Like I said before, Westgate will be just fine when the Coyotes find another sucker to pay them welfare.

Glad to see the improvements coming!

Unlike downtown Phoenix, Westgate is hands down a better place for concerts, sports and events. Easy highway access, plenty of parking that is not over priced and great food and bars in the area.

That is good news for Westgate along with the tribe finally getting the go ahead for their casino resort.
