PHOENIX — For the second consecutive year, a Valley museum has been ranked among the best in the nation.

Up five spots from last year, the Musical Instrument Museum has been ranked No. 16 on TripAdvisor’s annual list of top 25 museums in the country.

MIM spokeswoman Karen Farugia said what makes the museum so unique is its ability to appeal to various audiences.

“One of the best things about MIM is there are just no boundaries,” she said. “It doesn’t matter what color you are, what age you are, what ethnic background you are.”

Farugia said visitors get a set of headphones when they walk in, which projects the music reflected in the different exhibits.

“You’re listening to music and as you step away from an exhibit, the music drops,” she said. “As approach you the next exhibit, you pick up the music that is playing.”

A collection of 6,000 instruments and objects are set up in exhibits by continent, she said.

MIM has a collection of 16,000 instrument and objects. Farugia said the museum is always changing and adding exhibits.
