PHOENIX – An elderly man allegedly shot an elderly woman dead in an apparent murder-suicide in east Phoenix, authorities said.

Officers responded to the area of 43rd Street and Camelback Road around 3:20 p.m. on Monday regarding a shooting, the Phoenix Police Department said.

Upon arrival, officers found 81-year-old Mark Trewhella and 80-year-old Charlotte Trewhella suffering from gunshot wounds.

Charlotte was determined dead at the scene. Mark was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Detectives believe Mark shot Charlotte before shooting himself.

The investigation remains ongoing.
