Motorcyclist dead after collision with SUV in north Phoenix

A motorcyclist died in a collision with an SUV in north Phoenix on Monday morning, authorities said.

Darren Rama, 61, was pinned under the SUV when officers arrived at the crash site on 19th Avenue south of Bell Road around 9:50 a.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The Phoenix Fire Department responded and freed Rama, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rama was apparently riding his Honda VF750 motorcycle south on 19th Avenue when a Hyundai Santa Fe made a left turn in front of him at Grandview Road, police said.

The SUV driver remained at the scene and did not exhibit signs of impairment.

The case remains under review for potential charges.
