Motorcyclist killed in Phoenix when vehicle turns in front of him

PHOENIX — A motorcyclist was killed in Phoenix on Friday morning when a vehicle turned in front of him, authorities said.

The man wasn’t wearing a helmet when the accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Hatcher Road in the Sunnyslope neighborhood.

Hatcher was closed between Seventh and 10th avenues while the scene was being investigated.

The closure was expected to last a few hours, The Phoenix Police Department said.

The motorcycle was traveling toward Ninth Avenue on Hatcher when a vehicle made a right turn in front of him. The motorcycle struck the vehicle.

The rider was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and was cooperating with officers.

Police said impairment did not appear to be a factor.
