Mom arrested in Phoenix after baby not breathing with fentanyl nearby

PHOENIX — An 18-year-old mother was arrested in Phoenix after first responders found her baby not breathing with fentanyl pills nearby, authorities said Wednesday.

Fire personnel rushed the child to a hospital in critical condition after responding to a report of the baby not breathing at a residence near Interstate 17 and Seventh Street at about 7 p.m. on Monday, Phoenix Police Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said in an email.

Priscilla Caldera, the baby’s mother, was arrested on child abuse charges after the pills were found in the sleeping area of the baby, Fortune said.

No other information was immediately available.
