PHOENIX — Border Patrol Agents arrested a Honduran migrant who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border illegally, set a tree on fire and threw rocks at agents in Yuma, Ariz.
Authorities said that on Friday night, Yuma Sector Border Agents followed footprints to the male suspect.
After luring him out of the tree, it was determined he was a 31-year-old Honduran national who had previously been deported from the U.S. on June 4. On his record, the man had several previous arrests in Florida.
He told authorities that he was part of the “migrant caravan” that had been covered in the media.
The tree fire was extinguished by the Winterhaven Fire Department and no agents were injured.
A helicopter was dispatched to help track the suspect for more than one mile. The suspect also threw rocks at the helicopter during the incident.
The man was transported to the Yuma Central Processing Center for prosecution and removal proceedings.
