PHOENIX — Police in Mesa have joined two other Valley cities in putting its motorcycle officers in patrol cars at night to better protect them.

The measure comes on the heels of a Chandler officer who was killed on duty while riding his motorcycle in the early morning on Oct. 31.

Chief Frank Milstead informed his officers this week, local news reported.

Traffic police in Scottsdale and Gilbert already ride in cars only for night shifts.
