2 Arizonans arrested after border agents find meth hidden in Mercedes-Benz SUV

PHOENIX — An Arizona man and woman were arrested last week after border agents found dozens of methamphetamine bundles hidden inside their vehicle.

Border Patrol found more than 60 cellophane wrapped bundles of meth hidden inside the suspects’ Mercedes-Benz SUV, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night, agents at an Interstate 19 checkpoint near Amado in Nogales saw the vehicle passing through the inspection lane, according to CBP.

A canine team alerted the agents about the vehicle, and a secondary inspection was conducted.

During the inspection, agents found dozens of drug bundles hidden throughout the SUV.

The drugs and the vehicle were seized by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The criminal case was turned over to the DEA.

“Smugglers should take note: If you try to smuggle drugs through our checkpoints, you will be caught, and you will face federal prosecution,” Tucson Sector Chief Patrol Agent Sean L. McGoffin said in a press release.
