Mesa shooting leaves teenager dead, another person injured

PHOENIX — One teenager is dead and another person was left injured following a shooting in Mesa on Wednesday night, authorities said.

At 10 p.m., police responded to a shooting call at an apartment complex near Val Vista Drive and Hampton Avenue, according to the Mesa Police Department.

Upon arrival, police found 16-year-old Azriel Lloyd and an unidentified adult male with gunshot wounds. Both were taken to the hospital where Lloyd died due to his injuries. The man is expected to survive, authorities said.

Upon investigation, police discovered Lloyd was hosting a party at the apartment where he and the man were planning to meet and rob someone.

Multiple people have been interviewed and a potential suspect’s vehicle was found near Litchfield Park. No arrests have been made in the case, authorities said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
