Mesa police arrest domestic violence suspect after standoff at home in Chandler

A domestic violence suspect was arrested Tuesday after a standoff with Mesa police in Chandler, authorities said.

Mesa detectives determined the suspect in a domestic violence case lived near McQueen and Frye roads in Chandler and responded to the home just before 3:45 p.m., police said.

The detectives gave the man, whose name was not released, instructions to surrender. He remained inside and told police he had a rifle.

He was seen at the rear of the home with a rifle, prompting police to shoot at him. It’s not clear if he was struck.

He then barricaded himself inside the home until officers were able to use less-lethal options to take him into custody, police said.

The suspect was taken to a hospital to be treated for unspecified injuries.

The Chandler Police Department is investigating the officer-involved shooting as part of the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team.

It was the second time a member of the Mesa Police Department shot at a suspect in two days.

On Monday night, a Mesa officer shot and killed a man seen holding a gun in a backyard near Mesa Drive and McKellips Road.
