Mesa Police offering $5K incentive for lateral officer hires, $3.5K for new recruits

PHOENIX — The Mesa Police Department is offering thousands of hiring incentives in an effort to attract more candidates to join the force.

Mesa Police will hand out $5,000 to officers hired from other departments, according to a press release.

Those transfers will receive $2,500 after successfully completing the Mesa Police Lateral Academy and an additional $2,500 after completing the Mesa Police field training program.

New recruit hires will earn also earn incentives.

A $3,500 bonus split into two installments will be handed out after completing two department programs.

New hires will get $1,750 after competing the first four weeks of the police academy and another $1,750 after completing the field training program.

Additionally, recruits hired who have a bachelor’s degree will get $500 after completing the field training program.

Those who have a master’s degree will get a $1,000 incentive upon completion of the field training program.

Mesa Police employs about 800 sworn officers.
