Mesa police investigate swastika fliers found near high school

PHOENIX – Police in Mesa were investigating a cluster of swastika fliers that were posted on a street near a high school Tuesday.

The fliers were affixed to a power box and a utility pole near Skyline High School at Crismon Road between Broadway Road and Southern Avenue, police spokeswoman Irene Mahoney said in a Wednesday email to KTAR News 92.3 FM.

None of the signs were on school property, police said, and there was “no indication of any group or organization being affiliated” with the fliers.

Police said to their knowledge there hadn’t been any other reports of hate incidents in the area.

In December, the Anti-Defamation League of Arizona said it had received six reports of swastikas spotted around the state that month. “This is highly alarming and disturbing,” regional director Carlos Galino-Elvira said.

Incidents included a drawing of a swastika left on en elderly Jewish’s doorstep in Scottsdale, another found inside a bathroom stall at a West Valley movie theater and another in a stairwell at Camelback High School in Phoenix.
