A Mesa police officer is being investigated after he allegedly tipped off a narcotics suspect about an impending search warrant by another department, authorities said.

PHOENIX — A Mesa police officer is being investigated after he allegedly tipped off a narcotics suspect about an impending search warrant by another department, authorities said.
According to the Chandler Police Department, 50-year-old Edward Fire was charged with first-degree hindering for his role in alerting the target of a March 10 search warrant, which was related to a narcotics investigation.
“This individual’s deliberate and intentional actions directly placed officers at significant risk,” Chandler police spokesperson Ryan Cody said in a statement to KTAR News 92.3 FM. “Such actions create a serious, unnecessary threat to officer safety and will not be tolerated by the Chandler Police Department.”
The Mesa Police Department confirmed that it is aware of Fire’s arrest and is providing Chandler police with the necessary assistance for a thorough, objective investigation.
In addition, the department is conducting its own internal investigation and has placed Fire on unpaid, administrative suspension pending the outcome of both reviews.
“The Mesa Police Department holds its employees to the highest standards of professionalism and accountability, and does not tolerate or condone criminal conduct under any circumstances,” Mesa police detective Jesse Macias said in a statement to KTAR News 92.3 FM.
Fire was previously honored in 2024 for his role in a Fourth of July drug bust where 223 pounds of fentanyl were seized.

Management said he was “too hot‑headed” and “kept burning through resources.”

crooked cops who can sometimes be as bad as the criminals they are arresting, should all be weeded out similar to how the Roman Catholic Church did with predatory priests.

For years our prisons and law enforcement agencies operated like private entities where the public blindly placed their faith in them hoping they were conducting themselves in a righteous manner.
Much scrutiny has revealed, similar to the Roman Catholic Church, NO ONE is above transgressing and trampling over our laws and the rights of others.
If you really cared for and backed law enforcement like Broomhead claims he does, you would NOT just sweep these things under the rug and ignore them, but you would expose them and rejoice that the bad apples are being thrown out of an otherwise needed and necessary good.
