Mesa police make arrest in year-old murder case related to alleged gun and drug sale

PHOENIX — An 18-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday in relation to a fatal shooting that took place in April 2024, according to a Thursday announcement from the Mesa Police Department.

Devin Moll was arrested for second-degree murder in relation to the death of 23-year-old Gavin Wadzinski, police said.

The murder took place in a neighborhood near Power and Thomas roads. Officers found Wadzinski, a registered sex offender under lifetime probation from a 2022 offense, dead on a sidewalk.

How did police crack year-old Mesa murder case?

Moll was 17 when he allegedly killed Wadzinski after a gun and drug sale the two arranged via their cellphones.

Investigators served various search warrants to find out that Wadzinski arranged to buy a gun and marijuana from Moll.

Police also used various videos from traffic surveillance cameras to track Moll down for his arrest this week.

Charges 18-year-old faces for murder committed during Mesa gun and drug sale

Moll was booked into jail for one count of second-degree murder. He is being held on a $1 million bond.

This arrest is significant because it marks Mesa PD’s 100% homicide clearance rate for the year 2024.
