Benson was reportedly upset because her son was playing video games too loudly, according to a Mesa police report.

The son and Benson got into an argument, which led the son to go for a walk.

When the son returned home, the pair got into another argument. The Mesa mom blocked the son from entering the home, which upset him.

The son lunged toward Benson and that’s when she fired the gun at him, police said.

Benson was charged with the following felonies:

  • Two counts of aggravated assault.
  • One count of disorderly conduct with a deadly weapon.
  • One count of discharging a firearm within city limits.
