Mesa library closed due to monsoon storm damage

PHOENIX — A Mesa library was forced to close Tuesday after a leaky roof caused by a monsoon storm damaged its books.

The Mesa Express Library inside the Power Square Mall near Power and Baseline roads has not set a reopening date, according to the city.

The city said Monday night’s storm damaged the library’s roof, which caused leaks that damaged the library’s collection.

The library is accepting donations of children’s books, magazines and DVDs at the Red Mountain Library to replace its ruined items.

The storm caused thousands in the Valley to lose power, and standing water caused a closure of State Route 51.

Monsoon activity is expected to continue throughout the week in the Valley.
